Has Child Sponsorship ever crossed your mind? Becoming a sponsor to a child in need is one of the most rewarding experiences that you will ever have. Knowing that your monthly gift is helping a child directly and having a face to go with your support makes a difference beyond measure. This is why we are so excited to announce the RosaLuz Child Sponsorship Program!
The RosaLuz Child Sponsorship Program
One of the best ways that we can help children is to bring them stability. Most of the children we support barely have enough for today, let alone for tomorrow. They are barely making ends meet. While we are working on providing some self-sustaining programs for food such as crops and livestock, we want to ensure that the kids still have their most basic needs met including their heart's needs. This is largely why we are so excited about the launch of our child sponsorship program!
While we will still raise money through other programs for many of their secondary needs, child sponsorship will help ensure stability when it comes to the things a child should never have to worry about.
We hope you join us and become the hope a child we serve is waiting for. In the 3 years that I have spent as a partner with the Remar Children's home in Cusco, I can personally tell you that these kids simply want what all kids want...love. They want to know that someone cares enough about them to ask how they are, what their interests are, and to listen to them.
I'd like to share a story with you of something that happened at the Remar Children's Home during my last visit with the kids earlier this month. During our preparations for this child sponsorship program, we interviewed each child one on one in order to learn more about each of them as individuals so that we could prepare our child sponsor welcome packets. We asked each child simple questions such as what was their favorite subject in school? What did they want to be when they grew up? If they could have a gift for their birthday or Christmas, what would they like? (We were hoping to make a wish list).
This last question, had many of them stumped. They didn't know how to answer. We were a bit confused by their silence at first. Just a few months ago, I asked my 5 year old niece the same question, and I quickly got the answer "Princess Elena of Avalor" without hesitation. But these kids...their responses were that of disbelief. We were all moved by one child in particular. His name was Gustavo. When we asked Gustavo what he wished for Christmas, he just started crying. Jennifer, one of our volunteers who travelled from the U.S to help us was sitting next to him at this moment. She gently reached out to him and asked him what was wrong, he simply looked up with tears in his eyes and said "It's just...no one has ever asked me what I want before." We were all moved to tears. There wasn't a dry eye in the room! We ended up sharing hugs together and we let him know that he is loved beyond measure. That's why we were there to make life a little better. Jennifer, chose to sponsor Gustavo right then and there. "Happy" is to small a word to describe how he felt knowing Jennifer would be writing to him, thinking of him, and caring for him even from far away. He was at her side the rest of the time calling her "madrina" which means Godmother.
Kids are candid. They say exactly what is on their minds! It is moments like this one that gives me the motivation and strength to continue the work that we do at RosaLuz and why my team and I will work hard to change these little lives for the better.
I'd like to give a special thank you to the volunteers who came with me on this last trip to Remar and helped gather all of the information we needed to launch this sponsorship program. We couldn't have done this without you!
THANK YOU JENNIFER AND JUDY!
